Regulatory Status
EXCELLENT dual-function soothing and barrier-repair active. Panthenol is enzymatically converted to pantothenic acid in skin, where it serves as coenzyme A precursor essential for fatty acid synthesis and SC lipid metabolism. Clinical evidence demonstrates dose-dependent improvement in skin hydration, TEWL reduction, and anti-inflammatory activity through inhibition of IL-6 and IL-8 release from keratinocytes. Typical effective concentration: 2–5% in leave-on formulations. Widely validated for sensitive-skin, baby-care, and post-procedure applications. Not restricted in EU or US.
Permitted; no US concentration cap. Effective at 2–5% in leave-on formulations. CIR reviewed and confirmed safe as used. Widely used in sensitive-skin, baby-care, and wound-healing formulations.
