Description
Skin conditioning; Antioxidant. Extract obtained from the flowers of Clitoria ternatea L. (Leguminosae), commonly known as butterfly pea or blue pea. Rich in anthocyanins (ternatins) and quercetin glycosides, which confer potent antioxidant activity and give the extract its characteristic vivid blue/violet color. Widely used in skin care serums, toners, shampoos, face masks, and cleansers as an antioxidant skin conditioning agent. In vitro safety studies using validated OECD TG 442C/442D assays found the extract to be non-sensitizing, with percutaneous absorption data confirming safe topical use at concentrations up to 15%. The extract is listed in the EU CosIng database with a skin conditioning function.
