Regulatory Status
Safe essential oil with well-established anti-inflammatory and soothing profile, CIR-affirmed safe as used. Low sensitization risk when sourced from European chamomile; higher concern with Argentine material. Suitable for sensitive and baby skin formulations at typical use levels.
No concentration limit set by FDA for cosmetic use. CIR Expert Panel (amended 2018) concluded safe as used in cosmetics when formulated to be non-sensitizing. Contains bisabolol (separately affirmed safe by CIR 2015). Origin of plant material (Argentine vs European) affects anthecotulide content and sensitization risk.
