Verdict

Well-tolerated plant oil with favorable fatty acid profile (oleic/linoleic dominant) and established food-grade safety; refined seed oil is distinct from hazardous shell liquid; primary concern is residual nut protein in non-fully-refined grades for allergy-prone consumers.

US Note

CIR Expert Panel reviewed Anacardium occidentale (cashew) seed oil as part of the Plant-Derived Edible Oil / Vegetable Oil Group (173rd Panel Meeting, June 2025, draft stage). The broader CIR 2017 safety assessment of 244 plant-derived fatty acid oils concluded they are safe as used in cosmetics. No independent final CIR monograph published as of Feb 2026.
