Animal-sourced HA (rooster comb) must be free of pathogenic viruses, infectious agents, and biologically-derived impurities. Bacterial fermentation-derived HA is nearly endotoxin-free. No genotoxicity, no reproductive toxicity, acute oral LD50 >1200 mg/kg in mice.
