Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate is an acetylated ester derivative of hyaluronic acid functioning as a humectant in cosmetics at 0.01-0.1%, unrestricted under EU Regulation (EC) No. 1223/2009 with no listing in Annexes II-VI, and concluded safe by the CIR Expert Panel (June 2023) based on negative genotoxicity, no sensitization in HRIPT testing of 104 subjects, non-irritating profile, and negligible systemic absorption.
Permitted under FDCA as a cosmetic ingredient with no pre-market approval required. CIR Expert Panel final report (June 2023) concludes safe in cosmetics at present practices and concentrations (up to 0.1%). FDA VCRP 2023 data: 455 formulations reported (414 leave-on, 41 rinse-off). Not classified as GRAS (not a food/drug active).
